• Installation of material and equipment: Once the monitoring points were selected, interstitial water collectors were installed. This in order to characterize and carry out the record of the salinity, temperature, redox potential and nutrients of the interstitial water; before, during and after the restoration.

• Edaphological and chemical soil characteristics: For the characterization of the soil in the 600 ha. To restore, sediment cores were collected. In each nucleus the color, pH and redox potential were measured in situ , this using a multiparameter equipment. Later, they were transferred to the LHCEM with emphasis on mangroves, to evaluate the percentage of organic matter, nitrogen and total phosphorus, texture and bulk density.

• Thalímedes installation for on-site data collection: Thalímedes (data logger) were placed to record the variation in the interstitial water inundation amplitude, inlet and direction of the water type (sweet and marine).

• Topographic survey: To carry out the topography it was necessary to carry out open polygonal and rodeo radiations, geometric leveling from the center and differential topographic GPS method.

During the 2012-2016 period, the project of ecological restoration of 600 hectares of mangroves around the Jaina Island was executed, and among its results are:

• The construction of 8 main channels, 69 secondary and 17 artificial lagoons, with local labor force, 80 day laborers from the Sodzil, Chunkanán, Pomuch and Hecelchakán communities.
• The construction and filling of 81 artificial platforms from more than 900, 000 m 3 of sediment extracted during the excavation of the channels and lagoons.
• The hydrological rehabilitation from the construction of channels and artificial platforms, as well as the desazolve of the natural channels.

• The afforestation of 28 000 red mangrove hypocotyls ( Rhizophora mangle L.) along the edges of the main artificial canals.
• The natural regeneration of 75% in the 600 ha of work, (98% of black mangrove propagules, 1% with red mangrove and 1% of white mangrove) with a survival of 90%.

• The change in interstitial water chemistry, mainly in the concentration of salinity; it decreased more than 44 ups in the north zone and 10 ups for the south zone, as well as the increase of the environmental conditions by the entrance of sea, when connecting the channels with the sea.
