"Restoration, conservation and sustainable management of the mangroves of Costa Rica and Benin in the face of climate change"

At the international level, technology developed in Mexico is transferred, on restoration, greenhouse gas emissions and carbon sequestration in Costa Rica and Benin, Africa with funds from the Fonds Francais pour lÉnvironment Mondial, with an amount of $ 311,000 euros, and impact in the training of human resources at the graduate level. Which has involved, in addition, a great investment in time and scientific leadership.

This research aims to establish a comprehensive ecological restoration program with an approximate area of 31 hectares long term in three sites in Costa Rica and 20 ha in Benin Africa (Period 2017-2021), transferring applied technology in ecological restoration programs in Mexico. For this, the environmental diagnosis and monitoring for three years is contemplated, from the analysis of the physical and chemical parameters of the interstitial water and biological variables in three impacted mangrove zones of Costa Rica (Cuajiniquil, Chomes and Térraba Sierpe National Wetland) and an area in Benin, Africa (Grand Popo).
